April 24, 2007 - 10:40 p.m.

It was a very literary day today. My short story got critiqued in workshop. The same story that I turned in for the big, prestigious, annual fiction contest. The deadline was today, so the creative writing department (or at least the fiction faction of it was...I said fiction faction-woo and yay!) was abuzz with talk of short stories and sudden fiction pieces. Then they had a reading for the release of the literary magazine, which was wonderful, and was catered by two of the department's students. It was amazingly yummy food. Two kinds of lasagna, hummus, bruschetta, and all sorts of scones! And there was more, but I can't remember what it all was, other than delicious. And after the reading, my good friend Becca and I went to the bookstore to celebrate. She had her art on the cover of the lit mag, and she tied for the first prize in the fiction category. So we celebrated by each buying a cheap, young adult fantasy novel, which we will read and then trade. Fun! She got something called "Capt. Hook," just because it looked like so much fun (right, Poolagirl?), and I got Phillip Pullman's "The Golden Compass," because our good friend Rosie has told us both that we'd like it, and it's being made into a movie. So as soon as I finish "Coyote Blue" either tonight or tomorrow, I'll start that.

My god, I love books.
