FINALLY! Here it is, the reason I've been stalling and not updating for so long... 100 Things for my 100th entry! Enjoy. Sorry I took so long. 100 Things 1. Every time I listen to Flogging Molly's "Black Friday Rule" I am further convinced I should be a drummer. 2. I wouldn't be the person I am today without Harriet the Spy. 3. If I was one of the Seven Deadly Sins (Again, Flogging Molly), I'd want to be Sloth. The runner ups (runners up?), in no particular order, are lust and gluttony. 4. I've been dancing since the womb, literally. The nurses pulled me out and the umbilical cord kept coming and kept coming, and they all said "My god, I've never seen one so long! You could jump rope with it!" And my mom just said "Yeah, she moved around a lot." And I haven't stopped moving yet. It's my favorite story my mom tells about me. 5. When I was a wee toddler, I crawled out of my high chair and ran down the length of the dining room table. On another occasion, I gave an impromptu tap dance performance on the tray of my high chair. 6. The main problems in my life stem from a bout of depression in seventh grade. 7. My two best friends are both redheads named Lauren with beautiful singing voices, and their birthdays are a day apart. 8. I don't really have a religion, just beliefs. 9. Blank books, journals, notebooks, and sketchbooks are my favorite things in the world. Pens are good, too. 10. At the end of my first semester at TCU, where I was very unhappy, I walked up to the top of the football stadium with my best friend and flashed the school. 11. After the Christmas choir concert in my junior year of high school, an extreme bout of adolescent stupidity wound up with me being dragged under my friend's car in the parking lot. We were riding on the hood in the parking lot in our satin choir dresses and I slipped off the front and went under the bumper. Thank god she wasn't going too fast, although it seemed really freaking fast to me. 12. Thoroughly Modern Millie is my favorite musical. It's the first show I saw on Broadway, and I've seen it twice since then. Never seen the movie. 13. My eyes turn really, really green when I cry. 14. Sunny Delight makes me sick. 15. I love, love, love eighties movies and pop music. Once in government class in high school I got bored and made a list of all the eighties movies I'd seen, and it was over fifty. And I forgot a fair few. 16. I'm crazy about inverted roller coasters. My favorite is the Montu at Busch Gardens in Tampa. 17. The first time I was ever homesick, I was two blocks from home, housesitting for my ex-boyfriend's mom. I have since vowed never to do it again, even though she pays really well. 18. I've lived in Texas all my life, and up until I transferred to the College of Santa Fe, I'd never left the state for longer than two weeks. 19. My favorite song is Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes," but I actually like the live version by Jeffrey Gaines better. 20. Sometimes I want to leave my college behind and live a life either like in "Amelie" or "Some Like it Hot." I bet I'd be a good ukelele player. 21. I have wanted a red, hardtop '57 Chevy Bel-Air for as long as I can remember. But I'd settle for one that's turqoise, or a convertible, or both. 22. I go by Kat (Short for Katharine), but over the years I have been called Katfish, Miss Kitty, Katamoran, Kit Kat, Kitty Kat, Kitty, Kitten, and my personal favorite, Kitty Kitty Meow Meow (or Kitty Kat Meow Meow). And a professor of mine this semester keeps calling me Katz by mistake (it's his daughter's name. Force of habit). 23. When I was a kid, I went through eleven goldfish in about eight months. They just kept dying. The ones the guy at the pet store said were really hardy and could survive anything died within an hour of bringing them home. 24. I am thoroughly, unabashedly, ecstatically addicted to Steak 'N' Shake. It's one of the things I miss most about home, besides my parents and my friends. 25. Before I got braces in seventh grade, I had to have five teeth pulled. They told me to get a milkshake afterwards, and I really, really, really like milkshakes, so I didn't want to wait too long to eat it. But the novocaine hadn't all worn off, so it was dripping all down my chin, and I hadn't the foggiest. I told my best friend about it a few days later and she literally laughed for ten minutes straight. 26. I like to name inanimate things. My cars, my shoes, my laptop, my heater, my camera... 27. I love drag queens. Last year when I took an anthropology course (at a fairly conservative, Bible Belt college) and we got on the topic of gender, a few people said drag queens and transvestites and transsexuals were freaks, and it made me so sad, and angry, and a little bit nauseous because I was so upset. 28. My best friend wrote a song for me and the end of her senior year. 29. I recently found that the one completely failproof way to destress and cheer myself up is to jump on my bed. 30. I have seen Empire Records, Some Like it Hot, and The Princess Bride so many times that I can quote from all three at a moment's notice. "It's like jello on springs! It's like she's got some kind of built-in motor." 31. I can relate just about anything back to specific episodes of Gilmore Girls, and I have before been able to identify episodes by a split-second-long shot before the network switched to another commercial. 32. I fully believe I work best at the last minute. Some damn good papers have been written that way, if I do say so myself. 33. I frequently cry at the opening numbers of musicals because I want to do that so badly. 34. Every now and then I get the mean reds, but I haven't found my Tiffany's yet. 35. I love long car rides by myself. By long I mean at least eight hours. My longest yet was thirteen hours. 36. Ballet is far from my favorite kind of dance, but I love toe shoes. They're best when they're either brand new and unspoiled peachy pink, or black. Red is ok, too. 37. Tap has always come most naturally to me, to the point that in my poetry class when we discussed meter, I found myself coming up with steps to fit the different kinds of feet (iambs, trochees, spondees, etc.) without even realizing I was doing it. 38. I do not work well with most machines. In the past year alone my computer has crashed, I broke my ipod, my DVD player has gone epileptic, my car makes funny noises, my cell phone fritzes out about every other week, and my answering machine keeps changing its clock. I also dropped my digital camera, but luckily (for once) it didn't break. 39. I'm allergic to amoxicillin and cats. 40. I am often told that I remind people of Julia Stiles. I used to get that more when my hair was longer, lighter, and curlier, and I drove a big, old red and white car. I basically was the Kat in "Ten Things I Hate About You." Last week someone said I remind her of Amanda Peet, too. I love both of these actresses, so that made me happy. 41. I'm highly skilled in the arts of procrastination. Right now, for example, I should be working on a paper on the tropical rainforests of Australia. 42. I love the number 42. Because I love Douglas Adams. 43. I have a weakness for high heels, especially black ones. I currently own ten pairs of just black heels, in addition to all the other kinds and colors. 44. I have never broken a bone, or sprained anything, and the only time I've ever gotten stitches was from getting a couple of cysts removed. And I still have my tonsils, and my appendix. I like telling my roommate this, because she has terrible luck with stuff like that and it freaks her out. 45. I don't fall. I never really have. I've climbed trees, tapped on foot-wide stairs a la Bill Robinson, walked along the tops of fences, danced on my high chair, stood up in the seat of moving grocery carts, danced on wobbly benches in musicals, and walked on four-foot high stilts. I'm not a faller, although I've made my mom nervous on several occasions. 46. Sad songs make me happy. 47. I hate orange and grape flavored things, but I love oranges and grapes. 48. I make really, really, really good hot chocolate. The trick is to use about three times as much cocoa mix as they say (the Wal-Mart brand is actually the best), and to make sure the water boils so it'll all dissolve right. 49. I used to have this weird thing about making sure water boiled no matter what I was using it for, because I convinced myself that if it wasn't visibly boiling, then how could I really know it was hot enough? You have to understand, our microwave is older than I am. And older than my older brother, I think. He's twenty-two. But it finally occurred to me one day that if it was steaming, it was hot, I didn't really need to boil it. But you really do have to boil it for the hot chocolate. 50. I have built up a tolerance to drinking really really hot beverages because of this. 51. It's incredibly hard to startle me. 52. I have a soft spot for movies about goofy, eccentric, lovable characters in small towns. Mumford, The Love Letter (NOT the Hallmark movie, the one with Kate Capshaw), Drowning Mona, Hope Springs, State and Main, and so on. 53. My favorite sound is mourning doves calling. 54. I've always wanted to learn to do all that aerial acrobatic stuff they do in the circus, and I'm finally taking a class in static trapeze! And I fully intend to find out about aerial fabric classes. 55. I've never learned how to juggle. 56. My very favorite dance I've ever done was "Le Jazz Hot." It took a tremendous amount of energy, and we got to wear wigs. 57. My favorite parts of dances I've done are usually the hardest parts. 58. I have a habit of reading books over and over again. I'll also read several books at the same time. It drives my mom nuts, because she can't understand how I can keep it all straight. 59. The first medal I ever got was for Battle of the Books in fourth grade. I was captain. The second medal was for the same thing in fifth grade. 60. When I was three months old, my mom took me to Rocky Horror. 61. Sprinklers always remind me of the time Neaves and I went to the midnight release party for the fourth Harry Potter book, and afterwards we ran through the sprinklers outside the parking lot. 62. We've taken road trips to New Orleans to see my mom's family so many times that I can tell we've gotten there by the bumps in the driveway. I always fall asleep on those trips, but that turn in to the driveway always wakes me up because I can just tell that we're there. 63. I like jawbreakers so much that I just ordered a half a pound of them online. 64. I tend to go for really nice guys who can make me laugh a lot, rather than studly charming ones. My prom date in high school was the self-described love child of Groucho Marx and Mel Brooks. I miss that kid. 65. I dress up more when I'm stressed because it makes me feel better. All through my freshman year of college, I dressed up for every test I had. 66. My comfort movie is "Two Weeks Notice," with the commentary. During exam week last year, I watched it four times in two days. One night when I was working on a lot of stuff and watched it once, I just started it again. I actually remember more from the commentary than from the movie itself. 67. Since I discovered the fortunes page on thinkgeek.com, I have exponentially improved upon my time-wasting. 68. My first period came on the day of a lunar eclipse. I love how almost-creepy that it. 69. I'm on my thirty-third journal in nine years. I usually fill one a month. 70. I made myself a writing corner at home. It's just a bench in the corner, with a bunch of pens and index cards and all my writing books, but I miss it. I'm going to make one in our apartment next fall when we come back to school. 71. I tend to like punk covers of songs better than the original songs (like Save Ferris's "Come on Eileen" and basically anything by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, for example.) 72. I love Laren Stover's The Bombshell Manual of Style so much, that I wrote a personal essay in homage to it for a class this semester. 73. Neaves and I had a very informal contest once to see who could pop the most and strangest joints. I won with kneecaps. 74. I really like climbing things, and being off the ground. My window sill in our old house was about six feet off the ground and I would crawl up into it, or into the top of my closet. Somewhere at my high school there was a picture of me sitting on top of a filing cabinet. I wish I still had that picture. 75. My biggest fear is mediocrity, that I'll get out there and find that the world isn't as big as I want it to be. 76. I hate jelly beans. 77. I tap dance when I get impatient. 78. I will declare without a moment's hesitation to anyone at all that Ferris Bueller's Day Off is hands down the best eighties movie. 79. The first time I went to Rocky Horror with my friends, I went as Magenta. When we told our choir director about it on Monday, she said I have the boobs for Magenta. I do. 80. I am very fond of my boobs. They're great. 81. When I was little, I was never afraid of the boogeyman, or monsters under the bed. I was afraid of axe murderers and psycho serial killers. All because of one stupid slumber party where we watched "Scream." Screwed me up for life, dammit. 82. I sing like crazy when I'm alone in the car, especially on long trips. Like. Crazy. 83. I have a freakish memory when it comes to dance. Which is why I still remember huge chunks of dances from fourth grade, the show choir audition from my freshman year of high school, and tiny snippets of a million dances I started learning at conventions. 84. Monahans Sand Dunes is one of my favorite places in the world. When I think about that place, even finding sand in my hair weeks later sounds good to me. 85. My taste in music ranges from very good to very bad. Yes, there is Lena Horne and Duke Ellington and Flogging Molly (There's a leap for ya'.), but, sadly, there is also Journey and Flock of Seagulls. In my defense, I didn't buy the Flock of Seagulls, it was given to me as a joke. 86. I sang second soprano once in freshman year, for one song. After that it was strictly alto two, and occasionally tenor one. 87. I almost always spell "occasionally" wrong. Occaisionally. Bah. 88. It is sinfully easy to make me laugh, and I cry at movies all the time. 89. I don't like feet. They're weird, ugly, stumpy, sweaty, smelly things. 90. I can't believe it took me this long in the list to mention that I've gone through depression twice, but got out of it both times without professional help. 91. When things are really, really wrong in my life, I sleepwalk. 92. My favorite pen is a Parker fountain pen that looks like the Partridge Family bus. My brother gave it to me because the cartridge was out of ink. He's lazy like that. 93. The one thing my brother and I truly agree on is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, in any of its incarnations. 94. Towards the end of my year at TCU, I started hyperventilating after a class, and spent the next two weeks carrying around a paper bag. I've never looked at paper bags the same way since. 95. When I get really, really tired, my Texas accent gets thicker. 96. Every piece of clothing I own, and most of the sheets I sleep on, get ink on them at one point or another. Paint and stage makeup, too, but mostly ink. 97. I'm terrible at remembering to take vitamins. 98. The only new year's resolution I ever kept was to eat something chocolate every day. 99. There's a ton of songs I'd like to choreograph something to, but I won't choreograph anything for my favorite songs. I don't want to limit them that way. 100. I have always wanted to take a giant box of super bouncy balls to an enclosed stairwell (a LONG enclosed stairwell), and just dump them all.
